The Office of the Provost is excited to present the second annual Faculty First Week, as we welcome faculty back to campus for the 2019-20 academic year. In addition to first-day college, school and university meetings, we are offering a variety of professional development sessions, faculty research presentations, free headshots from our university photographer, a field trip at Lake Thoreau, a start-of-the-year block party and more.

This workshop is aimed at mentors, including faculty, Directors and staff, and provides specific strategies for ensuring effective mentoring (and boundary-setting) is occurring in their own units, as well as learning how to respond to questions regarding Title IX and/or other boundary violations which may occur in the context of faculty/staff – student mentoring relationships.
1) Introduction to faculty-student mentoring, including a discussion of the importance of maintaining good boundaries in student-faculty mentoring relationships; 2) Title IX reporting; 3) Implementing a School-wide Title IX awareness campaign, and 4) “Lessons Learned” including tips and advice from veteran mentors on maintaining good boundaries with students.
